Reading review 2008: Mystery Jets

Where and when: NME/Radio 1 stage, Saturday, 3.40pm, Reading

Dress codification: It's a slip back to the 80s - or, at least, a chanceful jumble browse from the 80s. Guitarist Will Rees is sporting guitar-shaped Elton John spectacles, a pinko suit and green Doc Martens, whereas singer Blaine wears an aqua-green sport jacket topped with a string of pearls.

Who's watching: A surprisingly laddish crowd, world Health Organization seem up for getting lairy to, er, sensitive songs about knitting babies' shoes. Also, the bulk of the site's adolescent girls ar here in full fluoro get-up. Must be those sexy aqua-green blazers.

In a nutshell: After cancelling a string of summer fete appearances, it's great to see Blaine Harrison back onstage (he'd been receiving hospital treatment for a condition relating to his spina bifida). But today is mayhap not the triumphant render we hoped for, marred as it is by terrible acoustics and a crowd world Health Organization just don't seem motivated to take part in the stately art of chucking beer around and damaging their vocal chords. Sure, everyone goes risky towards the end for Two Doors Down, only we've been taking notes and, compared to yesterday's Richter scale-registering reaction to MGMT's big hits, it's barely a rumble.

High point: Blaine's vocals sound on the verge of break down during a tender rendition of Flakes.

Low point: We tested three different locations but the well-grounded still sucked the big one.

How hard did they rock?:
Not very, unless your idea of rock involves a lot of distorted basso.

Big Brother - Rex-mohamed Divide Deepens Over Cider Row

Relations betwixt two of Big Brother's biggest personalities have taken another step backwards, with a row over cider the up-to-the-minute incident to upset Rex and Mohamed.

In an eery parallel to superpower Russia's military actions in Georgia, super-housemate Rex ? who has twice survived eviction and now has the speed hand thanks to the presence of his girlfriend Nicole in the house ? went on the offensive.

"Where's my f***ing cider?" he asked diplomatically, on discovering that two of his cans had gone missing.

It eventually emerged, thanks to the audacious efforts of head of house Michael, that Lisa and Mohamed has snuffled down the drink after mistakenly thinking they were Darnell's. He had given permission.

Rex, non accepting this explanation, launched an immediate attack on Mohamed's character. He called him "greedy Mo" and said Mohamed should suffer realised the error of his shipway before it was excessively late.

With Rex having avoided being put up for eviction this week he holds all the bargaining chips over Mohamed, with whom he has exhausted most of his time in the house on positive terms.

But he is attracting unfavorable judgment from other housemates. Lisa told Michael at the dinner board she believes Rex should have already been voted out because of his nasty type. Michael agreed, describing Rex as a "miserable b*****d".

Out of all the members of Take That, Robbie Williams never really seemed to fit proscribed in. Roguishly giving where his bandmates were but cute, Williams was tougher and sexier than the stay, which made him more classifiable. He overly fought regularly with the other members and their management, principally because he was now and again adverse to being so heavily packaged. So it didn't come as a surprise that he was the number one to leave behind the gang, departing early in the summer of 1995 to follow a solo vocation (by some accounts, he was fired from the mathematical grouping). Although he was the first taboo of the gate, it took Williams awhile to get started. For most of 1995, he attempted to boost his believability by tagging along with Oasis, hoping that Noel Gallagher would give him a duet of songs. He never did, only all of his clip with Oasis launched Williams into a human beings of wakeless partying, boozing, and drugging. Over the course of 1996, he was only if heard from in gossip columns, and every published movie indicated he had put on considerable system of weights. Occasionally, he was quoted as locution his raw music would give up lightweight dance-pop for traditional Brit-pop, simply his first single was a subvention of George Michael's "Exemption '90." Released late in 1996, the unmarried was a catastrophe, only his moment individual, 1997's "Previous Before I Die," was more in the

Doctor Issues Apology To Tom Cruise Over Comments

Reality television doctor, Dr. Drew Pinsky, has apologized for an article set to appear in Playboy, that states Tom Cruise may have experienced "serious neglect in childhood - maybe some abuse, but mostly neglect."

Pinsky's story in next month's edition claims, "A lot of people in the public eye who behave strangely have mental illness we can learn from, and much of it is based on childhood trauma, without a doubt. Take a guy like Tom Cruise. Why would somebody be drawn into a cultish kind of environment like Scientology? To me, that's a function of a very deep emptiness and suggests serious neglect in childhood - maybe some abuse, but mostly neglect."

Crusie's lawyer, Bert Fields, was quick to criticize Pinsky's remarks issuing a statement saying, "This unqualified television performer who is obviously just looking for notoriety is so grotesquely unprofessional as to pretend to diagnose Tom and others without ever meeting them. He seems to be spewing the absurdity that all Scientologists are mentally ill."

A rep for the the host of VH1's 'Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew' has apologized stating, "Dr. Drew meant no harm to Mr. Cruise and apologizes if his comments were hurtful."

"Although Mr. Fields's intent is clearly to slander and discredit Dr. Drew, under no circumstances is Dr. Drew making a blanket diagnosis about Scientology nor Mr. Cruise whom he does not know,"  the statement continues. "Dr. Drew was simply using Mr. Cruise as an example of someone who is recognizable to help the public understand. Again, Dr. Drew meant him no harm."
